About Middle Money Guy

Updated October 7, 2026

Decent money on paper. Not much to show for it. Let’s fix that.

Maybe you’ve had a raise or two. Maybe you’re the one your friends ask about money. And still, somewhere around the 25th of the month, you’re doing quiet math in your head and wondering where it all went.

Good news: you’re not bad with money. Nobody ever showed you the math. That’s what we’re here for.

Hi, we’re Middle Money Guy

Middle Money Guy is a YouTube channel and a website for the people money advice forgets: the middle. You earn a real income. You work hard. You’re not looking for a get-rich-quick course, and you’ve already heard the speech about skipping the latte.

What you want is someone to sit down with you, pull out a calculator and say: “Okay. Here are the real numbers. Here’s what they mean. Here’s what to do this week.”

That’s the whole idea. The videos tell the story. This site hands you the calculator.

What you’ll find here (all free)

  • 15 free calculators. House, mortgage, rent vs. buy, debt, savings, raises, retirement. Plug in your numbers, get your answer. No sign-up, no email wall.
  • Guides that show their work. Every article answers one real question: a short answer up top, a worked example with real numbers, the math in plain English and a calculator to try it yourself.
  • Printable worksheets. Two pages, a pen and 20 minutes. Things you can actually finish.
  • The Middle Memo. One short email a week: one money decision, one number worth knowing, one mindset shift. Hit reply and a real person reads it.
  • The videos. Money stories on @MiddleMoneyGuy about the moments that matter: the raise, the house, the paycheck that doesn’t stretch.

Four things we believe

1. Approved isn’t the same as affordable.

The bank tells you what you can borrow. Only you can decide what you can live with. Those are two very different numbers, and knowing the second one is a superpower.

2. Mindset moves money.

A raise rarely fixes money stress on its own. The habits you bring to the bigger paycheck decide whether it builds wealth or quietly disappears. The good news? Habits are learnable.

3. Simple beats perfect.

A plan you’ll actually follow beats a perfect spreadsheet you’ll abandon in March. We’ll always pick the step you can take this week.

4. You deserve the real numbers.

No scare tactics. No fantasy returns. No “one weird trick.” Just honest math, so you can make your own call with confidence.

How we make our content

  • We show our work. Every example uses realistic numbers, and we tell you the assumptions behind them. See exactly how our calculators work on our methodology page.
  • We use reliable sources. Official and widely trusted ones, like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Freddie Mac, HUD, the IRS and the Federal Reserve. We link to them right where they matter.
  • Our calculators are honest estimates. They use standard formulas and the numbers you type in. Your real results depend on your lender, taxes, location and life.
  • We keep things fresh. Rates, limits and rules change. We review our guides regularly, update the numbers every year, and show the “Updated” date on every article.
  • Spotted a mistake? Tell us at support@middlemoneyguy.com. We fix errors fast and say so.

The fine print (the friendly version)

Middle Money Guy is education, not financial advice. We’re not your financial planner, accountant, lawyer or lender, and nothing here is a recommendation for your specific situation. For the big decisions, talk with a licensed professional who knows your whole picture. We’ll help you walk into that meeting knowing your numbers.

How we keep the lights on

Everything here is free, and we’d like to keep it that way. Some pages include affiliate or sponsored links: if you buy something through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Every one of them is labeled, and money never changes the math. The calculators say the same thing either way. The details are in our disclosure.

Come say hi

Welcome to the middle. It’s a pretty good place to start.
